State and federal regulation was a key issue at the May 18 U.S. House of Representatives hearing on stablecoins, with the main focus on two competing stablecoin bills. Among them, the Republican bill would allow stablecoin issuers to choose the states in which they register without going through the Federal Reserve Board; the Democratic bill retains the opportunity for supervision by appropriate regulators in the hands of the federal government.
