European Stock Markets

The harmonization of the financial markets of the European Union created new opportunities to better serve the European stock market. Several exchanges aimed to take advantage of this by integrating their operations. The Amsterdam Stock Exchange, the Brussels Stock Exchange, Paris Bourse and Bolsa de Valores de Lisboa e Porto merged into Euronext, which is currently the largest exchange in continental Europe with 1,300 issuers representing 3.37$ trillion in market capitalization. The pan-European exchange lists many multinational companies, that are actively traded, such as Air France–KLM, Royal Dutch Shell, Unilever, Carrefour, Capgemini, Dexia, Ageas, Banco BPI and Galp Energia.

Key Euronext indices are the AEX, the CAC40, the Bel20 and the PSI 20, which are benchmark indices that track the performance of liquid stocks on the Dutch, French, Belgian and Portuguese stock markets respectively. Another key index is the Euronext 100, tracking the performance of the largest and most liquid European stocks.
