USSG holds a basket of companies that score highly for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors. The funds index uses MSCIs ESG rating methodology to assign a score to all US large- and mid-cap stocks. The index automatically screens out companies involved in severe business controversies as well as those companies engaged in alcohol, tobacco, gambling, weapons and nuclear power. The fund may include US companies outside the MSCI ESG Leaders Index as long as it has a BB MSCI ESG Rating and an MSCI ESG Controversies Score of 3 or above. At triannual rebalance, the fund selects about half the available market cap in each sector, emphasizing higher ESG ratings, larger firms, and current constituents. Although the funds performance may still vary significantly from the broader market at times, USSG is still a suitable core US equity investment providing a broad ESG take on the US equity market.
