The most important categories in the CPI basket in the Great Buenos Aires area are food and beverages (23 percent of the total weight), transport (12 percent) and restaurants and hotels (11 percent). Housing and utilities (11 percent); health (9 percent);clothing and footwear (9 percent); recreation and culture (8 percent); household maintenance and equipment (6 percent); miscellaneous goods and services (4 percent); alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3 percent); education (3 percent); and communication (3 percent) for the remaining. The CPI index has a base of 100 as of December of 2016 and covers the Buenos Aires metropolitan area and its 24 districts.
