Belarus’ foreign trade is characterized by the country’s preferential trade relationship with Russia. Access to discounted oil from Russia means that processed oil is the dominant Belarusian export (accounting for 33 percent of all exports). Belarus has traditionally excelled at heavy industry and is one of the world’s largest suppliers of mining and quarrying vehicles. Belarus’ other exports include food, chemical products, wood and furniture and metals. Belarus imports crude oil, machinery and transport equipment, manufactured goods, chemicals and related products, iron and steel, and food and live animals. Belarus’ main trading partners are Russia, Germany, the Ukraine, China and Latvia.
