The fund is passively managed to hold green, social, and sustainable bonds as classified by the Climate Bonds Initiative. These bonds are devoted to financing projects that promote climate or other environmental sustainability purposes, address social issues, or a combination of green and social projects. Examples are renewable energy, pollution prevention and control, climate change adaptation, food security and sustainable food systems, socioeconomic advancement, and affordable housing. Eligible securities must be denominated in CAD or USD, rated investment grade, issued from a developed market, and have a time to maturity of at least 18 months. Inflation-linked bonds, convertibles, US muni bonds, ABS/MBS, and other structured securities are excluded. The resulting portfolio is weighted by market value, subject to a 5% single issuer capping. The index hedges the currency exposure back to CAD through one-month forward contracts.
