The fund offers an alternative approach to the Canadian equity market by taking long and short positions in Canadian equities across various sectors. The long portfolio is determined using a model that screens for attractive fundamental characteristics such as value, quality, growth, and technical and market sentiment. Meanwhile, the short portfolio comprises stocks in the same industry that are rated lower within the funds fundamental screening model. Portfolio risk will be managed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The fund may use leverage to enhance returns, whereby the net equity exposure will generally exceed 100%. The fund may invest in derivatives, including forwards, futures, swaps, and options. The fund will also invest excess cash in Treasurys, short-term debt, and provincial or corporate bonds.
