Understanding Short Trades A short trade, or short selling, is a strategy used to profit from a decline in the price of an asset. Here’s how it works:
Borrowing: You borrow an asset (like a stock or cryptocurrency) from someone who owns it. Selling: You sell the borrowed asset at the current market price. Waiting: You wait for the price of the asset to fall. Buying Back: You buy the same amount of the asset at the now lower price. Returning: You return the borrowed asset to the original owner. Profit: The difference between the selling price and the buying-back price is your profit. For example, if you short sell a cryptocurrency at $10 and then buy it back at $7, you make a profit of $3 per unit.
