PostMortem on BankNifty Today & Analysis of 18 MAY 2023 expiryWeekly Analysis
In this expiry week, 12th to 18th May banknifty has moved up only 0.61% ~ 263pts. We have hit an important milestone this week though, 0.10 pts shy of all time high - 44151.7 on 15th.
Banknifty is immensely bullish considering how Nifty50 is behaving. A trader on 15th or 16th would have normally expected BN to surpass the ATH to hit new records. The pull back of 380pts from the swing high is mainly because of the negative sentiment of Nifty50.
It could even be a normal profit booking after a breathless run, and as banknifty has not tested the support on 17th or today - the bull run should stay intact.
---
Today's Analysis
We had a gradually declining day today after the gap up open at 44006. The price action may appear negative due to the falling shape, but we still ended the day in green.
There was a 272pt abrupt fall between 13.40 to 13.50 i.e. in the 10mts window - this looked like a warning shot. esp because the volumes also surged. Later on I read the news that SBIN results were declared. An there was a swing of 2.61% ~ 15.5 pts in this period.
Luckily 43800 PE spiked helping many traders book a zero-to-hero kind of profit. This surge came totally unexpected. It surged 591% from 14.55 to 101.9. It also goes to prove that option sellers should not take things lightly - surges like this could really wipe out the hard earned money.
---
15mts TF is not looking fully bullish, although today's gap up would have given lot of hope for the bulls - it did not really sustain. Also a falling price action may also indicate the tiredness.
Is the ATH breaking out getting delayed and markets in a phase of indecisiveness?
---
1hr TF is not really showing signs of slowing down either. Visually examining the moving average will also give you a fair idea - the slope is good and its increasing in value.
The shorter term EMA once it starts dipping will give us a fair warning to reconsider our bullish stance.
PostMortem on BankNifty Today & Analysis of 17 APR 2023NSE:BANKNIFTY really held its cool today! During preopen INFY was showing an open rate of -10%, and everybody would have thought we are going to see a massive sell off today.
IT sector in total was in focus today as the INFY even though had not so bad results was quoting at 10% lower circuit. I think I saw it go down to 12.3 or 12.5% - since I do not track the IT index that closely, it did not really bother me.
However I was excited to see how bank nifty will react. You might be aware that a sell-off in IT will impact the banks the most. A recession or a job loss in IT would mean a lot of NPAs and loan defaults as IT employees are the main people who take exuberant loans at unbelievable valuations.
The opening chaos is very visible in the charts of NSE:HDFCBANK , NSE:ICICIBANK and NSE:AXISBANK . NSE:SBIN had a contradicting pattern and surged ahead. NSE:KOTAKBANK was least impacted- the opening volume was unusual and it had a bright day.
At 10.05 bank nifty secured its feet and then started climbing. So this blip stayed only 45mts and you would not believe how the price action from the last session continued today also.
The 45mts of downward fall was well negated by what followed. I guess the dip buyers were back and immensely supported for a close +130pts today.
It will also meaningful to showcase the Nifty50 chart also, since IT index took a huge beating today, it was visible in Nifty50. There was a recovery post 10.05, but the close was in red unlike the bank nifty.
---
The options data also requires special mention today, both banknifty and finnifty options were unaffected by the volatility, the NSE:NIFTY options had a good ride today. At a point I saw VIX hovering around the +10%, seeing the recovery in banknifty, I was immediately convinced the best place to take an option trade was Nifty50 instead of BankNifty.
This makes an exciting week ahead. If there is further weakness in IT, it will spill over to the financial sector with a delay.
---
15mts on Banknifty says the uptrend is intact and today's blip has made no special impact. We need a support break of 41624 to get some attention of the bears !
---
1hr also looking promising for the bulls, the next resistance at 42576.
In fact in zerodha's TV chart a day high near this resistance level is visible, I am not sure why its missing in the TV chart directly. And today's price action rejection came at the resistance level only.
My big loss 2,18,000/- IN EXPIRY 13-4 Stoploss Vs. Account closeLearning topic : Learn from your loss
Be flexible in market movement do not attach to one setup only, Always take seriously your stoploss do not ignore your loss target.
If your back testing movement is accurate for 70% then also real market movement can wipe your 30% and you can have a big loss which will make your funds to 00.
When such situation comes where you make your funds 00, after that take gap for atleast 4-6 weeks to gain confidence as without stable mind you cannot trade properly.

Banknifty - 7 day range breakoutSo finally bank nifty has come out from a tight range, and today it has been a sideways market.
So our analysis will be simple, tomorrow will be a trending market.
if it opens below the 41800 level i.e previous day's high(PDH) we will wait for the breakout and our target will be the 42000 level.
On the other hand, if it opens gap up, the first scenario will be it can take support from PDH and the second will continue towards the 42000 level.
Note - I'm not sebi registered, this is only for educational purposes. Do your own analysis first.
Nifty is bullishAs we know, the price does not move up or down like a rocket, it has to take a pullback or a pause.
So after a trending day most probably the market stays sideways.
As you can see today's market was in a trend and most probably tomorrow it will be a sideways market, and our analysis will be simple
if nifty opens above the previous day's high(PDH) market can get resistance from the 17970 level and will be in a range the whole day.
Note - I'm not sebi registered, this is only for educational purposes. Do your own analysis first.

Part 1: Equity Derivatives - A Beginner's GuideWhat are derivatives?
Basic interpretation : something which is based on another source.
A derivative is a contract or product whose value derives from the value of the base asset. The base asset is called the underlying asset.
i.e., Sugar prices will rise if sugarcane prices increase due to low production. It means sugarcane is the underlying asset of sugar because the value of sugar is associated with sugarcane.
There is a broad range of underlying assets:
Metals: lead, gold, silver, copper, zinc, nickel, tin, etc.
Energy: coal, natural gas, etc.
Agri commodities: corn, cotton, pulses, wheat, sugar, etc.
Financial assets: Stocks, bonds, forex, etc.
There are two types of derivatives:
1. Exchange-traded: A standardized derivative contract, listed and traded on an organized exchange.
2. Over-the-counter/off-exchange trading/pink sheet trading:
A derivative product in which counterparties buy or sell a contract or product at a negotiated price without exchange
Instruments of derivatives market:
There are four instruments in the derivatives market:
1. Forward:
Forward is a non-standard agreement or agreement between two parties that allows you to buy/sell the asset at the agreed price for a pre-decided date of the contract.
Forwards are negotiated between two pirates, so the terms and conditions of the contract are customized.
These are called over-the-counter(OTC).
2. Future:
Future contracts are similar to forwarding contracts, but the deal is made through an organized and regulated exchange rather than negotiated between two counterparties.
A futures contract is an exchange-traded forward contract.
3. Options:
A derivative contract that gives the right but not the obligation, to buy or sell an underlying asset at a stated strike price on or before a specified date.
Buyers of options- Pays the premium and buys the right
Sellers of options - Receives the premium with the obligation to buy/sell underlying assets.
4. Swap:
A swap is a derivative contract between two counterparties to exchange for the cash flows or liabilities from two different financial instruments.
It is an introduction article. I will cover all these topics in detail.
Swap helps participants manage risk associated with volatility risk interest rate, currency exchange rates, & commodity prices.
Index:
Index = Portfolio of securities
An Index shows how investors experience the economy. Is it progressing or not?
A Stock market index gathers data from a variety of companies of industries. The data forms an overall picture and helps investors compare market performance through past and current prices.
Financial indices represent the price movement of bonds, shares, Treasury Bills, etc.
Importance of Index:
1. An index is an indication of a specific sector or gross market.
2. It helps investors to pick the right stock
3. An index is a statistical indicator. It represents an overall change or part of a change in the economy.
4. In OTC & exchange-traded markets, It used as an underlying asset for derivatives trading
5. An index helps to measure for evaluation of portfolio performance.
6. Portfolio managers use indices as investment benchmarks.
7. Index illustrates investor sentiments.
Types of index:
There are four classifications for indices:
Equal Weighted Index:
Each company is given the same weightage in the composition of this index. Equal-weighted indexes are more diversified than market capitalization-weighted indexes. This index focuses on value investing.
Free-float index:
In finance, equity divides into different among various stakeholders like promoters, institutions, corporates, individuals, etc.
A tradable stake for trading is called a free-float share.
i.g, If XYZ company has issued 5 lakh shares with the face value of Rs 10, but of these, 2 lakh shares are owned by the promoter, then the free-float market capitalization is Rs 30 lakh.
Free-float market capitalization: Free-floating shares * Price of shares
Index: BSE SENSEX
Market capitalization-weighted index:
In this index, each stock is given weightage according to its market capitalization.
High market cap = High weightage
Low market cap = low weightage
Market Cap= Current market price * total number of outstanding shares
i. e, if XYZ company has 1,000,000 outstanding shares and a market price of 55 rs per share will have a market capitalization of 55,000,000.
Index: Nifty 50
Price Weighted Index:
High price = More weightage
Low price = Low weightage
Popular price-weighted index: Dow Jones industrial average & Nikkei 225
I will upload second part soon.
Thank you :)
