South African Stocks at Over 1-Week Low

The JSE index was slightly down around 78,655 on Friday, its lowest since mid-May, tracking a cautious mood across global markets.

Another set of strong U.S. economic data has fueled concerns over tighter-for-longer monetary policy by the Federal Reserve.

In South Africa, caution reins ahead of local elections scheduled for May 29th, with polls suggesting the ruling ANC could lose its legislative majority for the first time since coming to power 30 years ago.

Among single stocks, Anglo American and Sasol led the losses, shedding 1.7% and 1.5%, respectively.
