WHAT IS GIFT NIFTY AND WHAT IS ITS IMPORTANCE

WHAT IS GIFT NIFTY. HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM SGX NIFTY
SGX NIFTY :
1. Indian Indices derivatives (Nifty 50 futures) previously used to be traded in Singapore stock exchange in dollar denomination.
2. This had given an opportunity to NRI and FII to trade in indian derivatives.
3. This was started way back in 2000 when Nifty 50 was introduced.
3. Singapore stock exchange used to start 180 minutes before Indian stock exchange. This would give an indication of the direction of Nifty 50.
4. The trading volume in SGX Nifty was 5 times of that of Nifty 50 in India and it was quite popular.
SGX Nifty used to operate from 0630 Hrs to 2230 Hrs .
WHAT IS GIFTY CITY
1. GIFT means Gujarat International Finance tech City.
2. It is controlled by IFSC(International Financial Services Centre Authority.
3. GIFT City is like a free trade Zone in India where International players can operate as per the international laws in international currency ie DOLLAR.
4. IFSC will take on the role of SEBI, RBI, PFRDA and IRDA ONLY IN GIFTY CITY.
5 GIFT City will be similar to other financial centres like Singapore, Dubai etc.
IMPORTANCE OF GIFT NIFTY
1. GIFT Nifty henceforth will give an indication of market direction
1. Henceforth all SGX Nifty contracts will be transferred to GIFT Nifty.
2. Also GIFT other than GIFT Nifty also offer GIFT Bank Nifty,GIFT Nifty IT and GIFT Nifty Financial services.
3. GIFT Nifty operates from 0400 Hrs to 0200 Hrs(next day)
