Football fan tokens: Marketing ploy or fan service?

Gone are the days when football (soccer) fans showed their loyalty by simply buying and waving scarf in their team colors - now they have spent a collective £355m on 'fan tokens', a crypto marketing ploy that seems to be paying off (for the clubs). While some fans say these tokens don't actually do anything and are just another corporate facade over the beautiful game, the tokens aim to provide fans access to perks like promotions, exclusive merchandise, and even pre-sale on match tickets.
