是以反映香港股市行情的重要指標，指數由55隻恒指成份股的市值計算出來的，
代表了香港交易所所有上市公司的十二個月平均市值涵蓋率的63%。恒生指數成份股，即是香港的藍籌股。
恒生指數由恒生指數有限公司負責計算及按季檢討，公布成份股調整。1969年11月24日正式向外發報。
