Profile

The Colombia Stock Exchange (BVC), also known as Bolsa de Valores de Colombia, is the sole stock exchange of Colombia. It was established in 2001 after the merger of 3 independent regional stock exchanges and is headquartered in Bogotá, the country's capital, largest city and economic center. It also has offices in Medellín and Cali. The supervisory tasks are handled by a self-regulatory organisation called the Autoregulador de Valores del Mercado. BVC is a member of the Sustainable Stock Exchanges, a project of the United Nations, and lists 69 companies with a market cap of $106 billion. The exchange also houses derivatives, currencies and fixed income products.

Among the listings are well-known and actively traded companies such as Ecopetrol, Banco de Bogotá, Bancolombia, Grupo Nutresa and Grupo Argos. It manages a market-capitalization weighted index called the COLCAP since 2008, which is widely seen as the benchmark index for the Colombian stock market. It tracks the performance of the most actively traded shares and has at least 20 constituents, which are screened for eligibility and reviewed periodically. Another key index is the COLSC, which tracks the performance of 15 small cap companies.
