It operates through the following segments: Health South Africa (SA Health), Life South Africa (SA Life), Invest South Africa (SA Invest), Insure South Africa (SA Insure), Vitality South Africa (SA Vitality), Bank South Africa (SA Bank), Health United Kingdom (UK Health), Life United Kingdom (UK Life), and All Other. The SA Health segment administers managed care services to medical schemes and renders administration services. The SA Life segment offers a range of insurance and financial solutions to the clients against the financial impact of lifestyle-changing events. The SA Invest segment is involved in discovery managed unit trusts, a comprehensive and flexible range of investment choices. The SA Insure segment includes personal line insurance for motor, building, household content, and portable possessions to the clients against the financial impact of loss or damage. The SA Vitality segment covers health and lifestyle benefits with selected partners. The SA Bank segment focuses on retail banking solutions including deposits and loans and advances. The UK Health segment is comprised of consumer-engaged private medical insurance products for employer groups and individuals. The UK Life segment provides a risk-only life assurance product. The All Other segment contains those segments that do not meet the quantitative thresholds. The company was founded by Adrian Gore and Barry Swartzberg in March 1992 and is headquartered in Sandton, South Africa.
